Short Haircut: Whenever a star gets a short haircut, the news travels fast among our staff and we search eagerly for photos. Most of the time, the results are very positive; after all, celebrities go to some of the best stylists around. But what if you have neither the budget nor the geographical access to a star stylist (and let’s face it – few of us do!) How are you supposed to get a great short cut? Having your hair snipped off generates enough anxiety that you shouldn’t have to worry about whether the person wielding the scissors has the ability to do your look – and your locks – justice!
Our best advice: Find someone with a great short haircut whose hair is similar to yours, and ask her who does it. It could be a co-worker, relative or friend. But even if it’s a total stranger, don’t be shy – she’ll no doubt be flattered. (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve let someone pass me by and wished I’d done that very thing.)
Your next step is to call the salon to book a complimentary consultation. Bring in a few pictures of styles you think you’d like for yourself, then have the stylist come up with a few suggestions. If you appear to be on the same wavelength, schedule an appointment. If you’re not sure, keep looking or think things through before you commit.
Whatever you do, don’t do from long to super short haircut all at once, unless you’re a real risk taker. It’s best to take it off gradually because even if the cut is excellent, a drastic change can be traumatic (i.e., you look in the mirror and find yourself almost unrecognizable!) You may discover an in-between length that you like so much, you won’t have to “go all the way: to an extreme style like Natalie Portman’s V for Vendetta. One of the things we do get asked often is what is gonna be hot in 2011? For that we go to haircuts 2011
No No Hair
Short Haircuts – Hair Helpers: There’s no time like fall for updating your look and trying something new! Here, San Diego-based Jet Rhys Salon provides tips on how to adjust your beauty routine to accommodate cooler weather and get this season’s soft, glamorous looks.
Don’t skimp on conditioning your hair! As the temperature drops, hair can dry out, especially after a summer spent at the beach. Repair your hair with deep conditioners containing ingredients like jojoba oil or honey, which are great emollients. Make your own DIY conditioning mask by blending 1 tbsp of honey with 1/2 cup of milk. Massage into hair and leave on for 15 minute, then rinse with warm water.
Soft waves will keep you looking feminine this season. Get the look in a snap by taking a large barreled curling iron and wrapping hair around in free-form twists. Use Bumble & Bumble’s Bb Shine for extra shine and polish. The results are romantic and pretty!
Got the tangles? Often a symptom of dry ends, Jet has a fabulous insider’s tip for a quick fix that you can get at your local drugstore. Just get a bottle of Infusium 23 Leave-in Treatment and put into a spray bottle. Mist onto your hair and voila – it’s instantly detangled and conditioned.
Glam rock, inspired by the 70′s, gets an update this fall. Keep it minimal and unfussy with simple straight locks that are all about smoothness and movement. For an alternate take, twist and pin hair up for a cool, easy-does-it up-do. Jet suggests using Bumble & Bumble’s Prep to help smooth out hair and maximize shine.
Treating the 3 Ugly Hair Problems
We all have them – hair woes that just won’t go away. For solutions to the most common ones, we turned to Beverly Hills celebrity stylist Steve Lococo!
Unsightly frizz: after shampooing apply dabs of Borrelli Intense Hydration Conditioner. Rinse strands, allowing a small amount of product to remain in the hair. Work in Borrelli Anti-Frizz Glaze. The combination will control frizz and give curley hair a smooth texture. Finish with Borrelli Shine Spray, which will help smooth down the hair shaft.
Flaky scalp: Does the change in season cause your scalp to become dry? If so, try using a boar bristle from roots to ends just before shampooing. This will encourage follicle production and rejuvenate your scalp. The result: healthy hair with lots of shine.
Flat strands: If your locks need a lift, work in a small amount of Borrelli Volumizing Foam at the roots. Dry using a round brush and blower, then style ends as desired.
Haircut – 5 Hot Celebrity Stylists: Do you go on vacation with your hairdresser? Hit the clubs with your stylist on Saturday nights? You might not call up your colorist when you’re having relationship problems, but your favorite star might! When you need tweaks and touch-ups as often as celebrities do, you can’t help but become buds with you mane man (or woman). Shampoo really is thicker than water.
Here’s a quick rundown of some Hollywood’s leading hair wizards and the stars who can’t live without them!
Ken Paves – As the personal stylist of Carmen Electra, Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson, he’s snapped by the paparazzi almost as often as his clientele.
Rita Hazan – When Jessica, Ashlee and Carmen are done being snipped by Ken, they head to Rita for their color. Jennifer Lopez‘s signature shade was also created by the native New York colorist.
Enzo Angileri – Molly Sims, Nicole Kidman and Faith Hill have all been styled by the Matrix expert, but it’s Charlize Theron who remains his muse.
Mark Townsend – Love the Olsen twins’ rippling waves? Thank Mark Townsend, who’s also created trend-setting looks for Natalie Portman and Selma Blair.
Chris McMillan – You can thank this L.A. stylist for Jessiner Aniston‘s “Rachel” cut, which was probably the most popular look of all time! The former Friends star still relies on him for his hair wizardry and his friendship
